Moniza Alvi è nata a Lahore, Pakistan, nel 1954 ed è cresciuta in
Inghilterra, nello Hertfordshire. Ha studiato alle università di York e
London. Ha pubblicato quattro raccolte di poesie:
The Country at My
Shoulder,
A Bowl of Warm Air,
Carrying My Wife e Souls. Dopo una lunga
carriera come insegnante di scuola superiore, ora vive a Londra col
marito e la figlia. Tiene corsi di scrittura all'Open College of the
Arts e alla Poetry School. Ha ottenuto il The Poetry Business Prize nel
1991. La sua prima raccolta
The Country at My Shoulder (OUP, 1993) e
stata finalista per i premi T.S. Eliot e Whitbread.
Moniza Alvi was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1954 and grew up in

After a long career as a teacher in a high school, she now lives in
London with her husband and daughter. She holds courses of writing at
The Open College of the Arts and at The Poetry School. In 1991 she has
won The Poetry Business Prize. Her first collection of poems
The Country
at My Shoulder (OUP,1993) has reached the final for the T.S. Eliot and
Whitbread Prizes.
