London smoke

carolina lio

I’m trying to understand the ethics. The sense of justice
and the duty of one who does what cannot be avoided.
I’m trying to understand the thought of the doctor who said:
-- A normal person would not behave like this.
While my mother waited behind the door,
ready to pay him like a cashier at the market of blood.
Who knows what he meant when half-way through he asked:
-- Do you know you’ve had a nervous breakdown?
Was he asking if I’d been ill or only if I knew?
I want to see behind the flat tone of one who says
what he says as if he were saying something else.
This unconscious means of transport
on which life seems to float in a smoke of fiction.
