They have trod on the gypsy violin
gypsy cinders remain
fire and smoke
rise up to the sky.
They have taken the Gypsies away
children separated from their mothers
women from men
they have taken the Gypsies away.
Jasenovac is full of Gypsies
tied to concrete pillars
heavy chains on their feet and their hands,
on their knees in the mud.
Their bones
are left in Jasenovac
a denunciation of inhumanity
other dawns light the sky
and the sun still warms the Gypsies.
