vince fasciani

a tree of dates
and everything around me disappears
the temporary anesthesia of my heart
the sleep of the still-mute hero

a rock laden with happiness
but truth is covered with sand
and with the passing of time
we fall asleep in the king’s body

meanwhile the world seems smaller
with sweet violence I detach myself
from such heights

I have no more time to look around
the suitcase is heavy
but it holds nothing of importance

translated by Brenda Porster

Vince Fasciani was born of an Italian father and a Swiss mother in 1950 and has been living in Geneva for many years. Self-taught, in 1977 he started his real literary activity, dedicating himself especially to poetry. He writes both in Italian and in French. Among his most important publications are: Saisons métisses (Olizane editions, Geneva 1983), La couleur d'une eau mort(e (in the group work l'arc Lémanique, Pierre-Marcel Favre/L'Hebdo, Lausanne 1988), L'ange mutilé (Métropolis editions, Geneva 1991), Journal d'un ange gardien (Métropolis editions, Ginevra 1994), Un ange passe (L'Age d'Homme editions, Lausanne 2002), Poèmes sans plomb (L'Age d'homme editions, Lausanne 2006); Il Mondo di Profilo (Casagrande editions, Bellinzona 1989), Punto d'appoggio (Casagrande editions, Bellinzona 1995), L'odore umano della pietra (Casagrande editions, Bellinzona 1999). A critical note by Pier Vincenzo Mengaldo dedicated to Fasciani is to be found in the anthology Cento anni di poesia nella svizzera italiana (Armando Dadò editions, Locarno 1997). The poems published belong to the unpublished collection, Diario Ordinario.
