leaving

vesna stanic

Now I'm going, or rather returning,
I should say, leaving.
Far from my host-land
for long time loved,
hated.
I'm leaving towards dark clouds
and a city rainy
and grey, and green,
plaintive and vociferous,
mine.
I'm leaving today to crumble
the earth in my hands
to mourn on the dusty
pavement
a love I cannot
send away.
