Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born in Nigeria in 1977 and grew up in the university town of Nsukka. She studied communication and political science in Connecticut, graduating summa cum laude. Her short fiction has been published or is forthcoming in The Iowa Review, In Posse Review, Prism International, Calyx Journal, Wasafiri, Other Voices and the anthology 'Proverbs For The People. She was short-listed for the Caine Prize for African Writing 2002 and was a runner-up in the Commonwealth Short Story Award 2002. Her first novel, Purple Hibiscus , will be published by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill in the Fall of 2003.
